Dear Corby Glen Parish Council,
We’re writing to let you know that our Stage 2 Consultation on updated proposals for the Weston Marsh to East Leicestershire project will launch on Tuesday 8 September at midday and close on Tuesday 3 November at 11:59pm.
The consultation will provide an opportunity for local communities, stakeholders and interested parties to review our updated proposals and share their views before we submit our application to the Planning Inspectorate in 2028.
Our proposals include:
- Approximately 60 km of new 400 kV overhead line which would run east to west from the Weston Marsh B substation, which is part of the separate Grimsby to Walpole project, to a proposed new substation, WMEL-B, near Wartnaby in Leicestershire
- Two new 400 kV substations:
– WMEL-A near Corby Glen, Lincolnshire
– WMEL-B near Wartnaby, Leicestershire - Approximately 66 km of upgrades to the existing overhead line which runs from near Wartnaby to the existing Grendon substation in Northamptonshire.
The project forms part of The Great Grid Upgrade – the largest overhaul of the electricity transmission network in England and Wales in generations – which will help connect more secure, cleaner, home-grown energy from more affordable sources to homes and businesses across the East Midlands and beyond.
Following our first consultation in summer 2025, we’ve carefully considered the feedback we received. That feedback, alongside further technical and environmental assessments, has helped us refine and develop our proposals. The upcoming consultation will give people the chance to see how the project has evolved and provide further feedback on our updated plans.
We’ve arranged a series of public information events across the project area where you can meet members of the project team, find out more about the proposals and ask questions. We’ll write to you again with the details of the consultation including materials, events and ways to respond when the consultation launches next week.
We’ll also be contacting landowners along the proposed route this week to make them aware of the upcoming Stage 2 Consultation. If you feel it would be helpful, please do share this information with your local networks in the meantime.
