Parish Council News, Village News|

Dear Corby Glen Parish Council,

I am writing on behalf of National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) to inform you that at 12pm today we are launching the Stage 2 Consultation for the Weston Marsh to East Leicestershire project, a proposed new high-voltage electricity transmission line between Weston Marsh in Lincolnshire and near Wartnaby in Leicestershire.

As you will be aware, the project forms part of The Great Grid Upgrade – the largest overhaul of the electricity transmission network in England and Wales in generations – which will help connect more secure, cleaner, home-grown energy from more affordable sources to homes and businesses across the East Midlands and beyond.

Our proposals include:

  • Approximately 60 km of new 400 kV overhead line which would run east to west from the Weston Marsh B substation, which is part of the separate Grimsby to Walpole project, to a proposed new substation, WMEL-B, near Wartnaby in Leicestershire
  • Approximately 66 km of upgrades to the existing overhead line which runs from near Wartnaby to the existing Grendon substation
  • Two new 400 kV substations:
    WMEL-A near Corby Glen, Lincolnshire
    – WMEL-B near Wartnaby, Leicestershire

Stage 2 Consultation

Following our Stage 1 Consultation in summer 2025, we have carefully considered the feedback received. Together with further technical and environmental surveys, this feedback has helped us to refine and further develop our proposals. As a result, we are seeking views on our updated proposals to obtain further feedback before we submit our Development Consent Order (DCO) application to the Planning Inspectorate in 2028.

The Stage 2 Consultation will run from 12pm today until 11:59pm on Tuesday 3 November 2026.

During this period, we will:

  • Hold public information events and webinars to explain the proposals and answer questions.
  • Make consultation documents and maps available on the project website.
