(Read the latest Council EGM minutes regarding this matter here)

The Parish Council wishes to update residents on National Grid’s proposed development to upgrade the electricity transmission network between Weston Marsh and East Leicestershire. This forms part of their wider Great Grid Upgrade, a national programme aimed at modernising the electricity system.

While we understand the need to reinforce the national grid to support renewable energy and energy security, we are reviewing the potential local impact of these proposals with care. We are committed to representing the best interests of our community throughout this process.

What is being proposed

National Grid is proposing to:

  • Build a new 400,000 volt (400 kV) overhead electricity line
  • Construct two new substations
  • Replace wires (conductors) on around 55 km of existing overhead line to increase capacity

These upgrades are designed to carry energy generated from new, home-grown sources more efficiently across Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, and Northamptonshire to homes and businesses throughout the East Midlands and beyond.

Parish Council view

While recognising the broader benefits, the Parish Council remains attentive to the potential impact on our local environment, landscape, and residents. We are actively engaging with the consultation process and encourage all parishioners to do the same. This is an important opportunity for our community to have a say.
